Furnishing your Airbnb or vacation rental can be a bit overwhelming. To help you out, we’ve created this Airbnb furniture checklist with everything you need to furnish your vacation rental property. This list includes all the furniture you need to get your property ready for guests, as well as additional furnishings, fixtures, and decor ideas.

Checklist for Furnishing Your Airbnb or Vacation Rental

For this post on furnishing your Airbnb, we’ve limited the list of items to just furniture and other ‘furnishings.’ But if you’re starting with an empty property, you’ll need to consider not just furnishings, but also supplies, amenities, foodstuffs, and other inventory–basically everything you need to make a home ‘liveable.’

If you want a list of everything else you need to prepare your property for guests, check out our complete Airbnb Host Checklist or our inventory spreadsheet, which includes furniture and furnishings, as well as other inventory, amenities, and supplies.

We’ve created a convenient inventory spreadsheet, which includes not just furnishings but everything you need to stock your Airbnb or vacation rental. To use it, go to File > Make a copy (if you’re logged in to your Google account) or File > Download. Modify as needed and start checking things off! View the Inventory Spreadsheet

But if right now you’re just looking for furniture and furnishings, read on for the list of items you’ll need to furnish your vacation rental, broken down by room and area.

Bedroom

While the number and size of bedrooms in your Airbnb will vary, these are items you’ll want to make sure you have for a vacation rental bedroom. You can also find these items in our inventory checklist spreadsheet, which you can download and modify to adjust the number / type (king, queen, twin, etc.) of each of these items.

Living Area

Airbnb Furniture

Depending on the size and layout of your space, the items you can fit in your living area will vary a great deal. You might have a full basement and game room with enough space for a ping pong table or foosball table. Or you might have a studio apartment with just enough room for a small kitchen table. Here are the basic items to have in your vacation rental living areas:

Furniture

Furnishings & Decor

Kitchen

If you have basic appliances already (you might still need to pick up a coffee maker or toaster or other smaller appliances), furnishing your kitchen can be a pretty simple affair. A kitchen table, some chairs, and bar stools are pretty much all you’ll need to furnish your vacation rental kitchen.

But fully stocking your kitchen requires some extra thought and supplies. Check out our post on how to stock your vacation rental kitchen, or download our complete vacation rental inventory checklist, which includes a list of all the items you might want to have in your Airbnb kitchen.

Furniture

Appliances

Accessories

Bathroom

Your typical bathroom doesn’t have much ‘furniture,’ so to speak. But there are plenty of supplies and amenities you’ll need to include in your Airbnb bathroom. Find the full list of items you need for your Airbnb in our inventory checklist spreadsheet.

Furnishings / Accessories

Aside from these, you’ll of course need to provide items like towels, toiletries, and other Airbnb bathroom amenities. Find a full list in our Airbnb host checklist.

Outdoor

If you’re lucky enough to have outdoor space, make it welcoming to your guests by creating a homey space where they can enjoy a barbecue and playing games. We’ve detailed all of our recommendations for outdoor furniture in this post.

How to Buy Airbnb Furniture & How Much It Costs

The average Airbnb furniture cost will vary immensely depending on the size of your space, and the quality of furniture you choose to buy. But in most cases, you can expect to spend anywhere from $5,000 – $15,000 to fully furnish your Airbnb. This includes furniture, decor, labor, and other supplies and inventory.

How much it will actually cost to furnish your vacation rental property will depend on a long list of different factors, and you can get a better sense by making a complete list of the furniture and furnishings you’ll need to buy. You can download and modify our Airbnb inventory checklist as a great way to start.

Where to Buy Vacation Rental Furniture

A few places to look for quality, affordable furniture include Wayfair, World Market, Ashley Furniture, Article, Cort Furniture, and of course, Amazon. Ordering your furniture online can save you a lot of time and headache of running around to different furniture stores in person. You can also often find great deals and easily compare prices and reviews.

You can also find companies that offer vacation rental home furniture packages, or provide a comprehensive Airbnb furnishing service.

While you might be tempted to buy Ikea furniture for your Airbnb, there are a couple of reasons you might decide against it. First, Ikea furniture pieces are very common and recognizable, which can make your property feel more generic and cheap. And second, Ikea furniture isn’t always the most durable, which means you may need to replace sooner than other furniture options.

We hope this Airbnb furnishing list helps you get started furnishing your Airbnb! If you’re looking for more ideas on how to furnish and stock your vacation rental, check out our Airbnb Host Checklist, or download our complete inventory checklist spreadsheet.
