You’ve got this great property listed, but uh-oh, no bookings coming in. You’ve done some digging and realized your listing isn’t showing up in searches. Now what?

Don’t worry as we’re here to solve this mystery.  Let’s uncover why your Vrbo listing might be hiding and how to fix it.

Why is My Vrbo Listing Not Showing?

If you’ve noticed that your Vrbo listing is absent from the search results, there could be a few reasons why that’s happening:

  • Pending Approval: Your listing might still be pending approval from Vrbo. If you just created your listing, you need to wait until Vrbo sends you an email informing you that your listing is live.
  • Listing Status: Check the status of your listing to ensure it’s active and live. If you recently made changes to your listing (like hiding or disabling it), it may take up to 24 hours to reflect those changes in search results.
  • Property Location: Make sure your property’s location is correctly marked on the map in your dashboard. If it’s not, your listing won’t show up when you search for that location. Also, double-check that the location is filled in correctly in the “Where” bar on your property’s page.
  • Incomplete Information: All the necessary information for your listing need to be complete for your listing to show up. This includes details like pricing, availability, photos, and descriptions.
  • Payment or Account Issues: If there are any issues with your account or payment details, your listing might not be visible. Check your account settings to ensure everything is up to date.
  • Discounts: If you’re offering a weekly discount, make sure you’ve set one fixed discount rate for your property. Using different discount rates might stop the filter from working correctly.
  • Technical Glitch: Sometimes, technical issues can cause listings not to show up properly. Try logging out and back in, or clearing your browser cache to see if that resolves the issue.
  • Changes in Algorithm or Ranking: Vrbo frequently updates its search system to make it better for users. Your listing might still be there, but it could be lower down in the search results because of changes to how Vrbo decides what to show first.

Reasons Why Your Listing Might be Hidden

If you’ve searched through all the results and can’t find your listing, Vrbo might have hidden it for several reasons. Here are some common ones:

  • Self-Hiding: You may have intentionally hidden your listing in your account settings and forgotten about it.
  • Expired Reservation Requests: If you’ve had three or more reservation requests that expired in the last 90 days, Vrbo might hide your listing for a while. They do this to stop more declines from hurting your listing’s performance. So, if you think you won’t be able to respond to booking requests within 24 hours, it’s a good idea to hide your property temporarily. There’s no harm in hiding it, and you can always unhide it whenever you’re ready.
  • Low Listing Acceptance Rate: If you often say no to booking requests, it can hurt how well your listing shows up in searches. Vrbo might hide your place to keep it from getting worse because of too many requests timing out.
  • Violation of Policies: If your listing breaks any of Vrbo’s rules, they might take it down or hide it from searches. Review Vrbo’s rules to make sure your listing didn’t break any.
  • Suspicious Activity: If Vrbo thinks something fishy is going on with your account or listing, like scams or spam, they might hide it until they sort it out.

What Can You Do to Unhide Your Listing?

When you know what the issue is, you can start fixing it. But even if you’re not totally sure, there are still steps you can take to sort things out. Here’s how to get your Vrbo listing back on track:

  • Check Your Spam Folder: When Vrbo hides your property, they’ll send you an email with a link to unhide it. If you haven’t seen it, check your spam folder to make sure it didn’t end up there.
  • Address Issues: If your listing was hidden due to policy violations, incomplete information, or other issues, address those first. Make sure your listing complies with all of Vrbo’s policies and guidelines.
  • Sort out payments: If there were payment issues, get them squared away ASAP, and your listing will be visible again.
  • Check for Self-Hiding: You might be confident that you didn’t hide your listing, but it’s worth double-checking just to be sure. Here’s how:
    • Log in to your account
    • Select the listing you want to check
    • Click on  Property details
    • Head to the Listing status section and there you’ll be able to view the status of your listing
  • Contact Support: The last resort is to get in touch with their support team, and they will help you solve this conundrum.

Dealing with issues like this can be frustrating, but it’s all part of the vacation rental business. Sometimes you might miss requests, forget to fill in details, or accidentally break rules, ending up with a hidden listing.

The good news is that everything can be fixed. If you can’t figure it out on your own, don’t stress, just reach out to Vrbo’s support. That’s what they’re there for.

To avoid situations like these, it’s smart to list your property on multiple vacation rental sites. Check out our guide on listing your rental on both Vrbo and Airbnb for tips.
